Student Diversity Initiatives
The mission of the student diversity initiatives (SDI) office is to actively increase the number and diversity of prepared and motivated first through twelfth-grade students through STEM enrichment-focused camps and workshops; to recruit, support and retain female and traditionally underrepresented minority students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields through educational and professional development resources.
Through programs and partnerships, SDI supports diversity-related programming and promotes awareness about female and multicultural related issues; SDI helps foster an academic and professional environment that supports the students of Missouri S&T and strengthens the campus community.
Student Diversity Program
The mission of student diversity program (SDP) is to actively recruit and retain academically talented students from ethnic populations that are historically under-represented in higher education. In conjunction with the university’s mission, SDP’s ultimate goal is to create an environment that provides the development/guidance and academic support needed to be successful at Missouri S&T; while equipping our students with the knowledge and skills needed to transition effectively into society.
SDP, through its programs, partnerships and ongoing assessments of the learning, styles and personality traits will foster an academic environment that will ensure our students success. Through execution of these initiatives, the university will develop a pool of committed and gifted Missouri S&T’s ambassadors that could be utilized to recruit other underrepresented minority students to the campus.
Activities include (but are not limited to) academic recognition events, off and on campus recruitment programs, mentoring, leadership and professional development and scholarships. Such scholarships as the Minority Engineering and Science scholarships are to increase minority representation representation in math, engineering, science or technology degree programs.
Women’s program mission is to serve as an educational and professional development resource center for all students and promote awareness of female and diversity-related issues to the campus.
Women’s program provides activities and programs for students to learn about diversity in leadership from the female perspective. Our goal is to encourage student involvement and strategic leadership in campus and community organizations through participation in: guest lectures, workshops, professional development, networking skills, scholarships, student organizations (SWE) and mentoring/advising. The ultimate goal is to enable students to assume leadership and management positions after completing their degree.
