The Design Engineering Center (DEC) is a unique university research partnership for industry, healthcare, and government. The purpose of the DEC is to address the universal need for effective design, manufacturing, and healthcare methodologies which provide quality educational opportunities to properly prepare and motivate students (undergraduate, graduate, and practicing engineers). The DEC is a research activity in the Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Department. The current organization consists of a director, a number of graduate and undergraduate students, and participating faculty. Current areas of research include quality engineering, healthcare systems engineering, pattern recognition, concurrent engineering, Taguchi Methods®, six sigma and design for six sigma, product development, engineering education, and design optimization.
